Joseph E. Spadaro died in 2013 in Honolulu at the age of 95. He, along with his wife Luella and their two children, lived in Waikoloa Village for many years having previously achieved success on the mainland and Oahu. He was an automotive educator and dedicated problem solver. He converted AlohaAirlines fleet of equipment to propane while with Honolulu Gas. Co. and later repaired the hydraulic systems on minesweepers. Among his favorite hobbies was repairing computers, which he did until his death.
Luella Spadaro has funded the Joseph E. Spadaro Memorial scholarship in Joe’s name since 2014. The scholarship provides tuition, books, tools and other required supplies for students studying trade occupations, such as automechanics, at the Hilo Community College, funded through the Hawaii Community Foundation and administered by FL-WR, which also makes a $500 donation to the scholarship each year.
